The Homeplace
Watercolor

This painting was completed in 1977 and is a watercolor of an old deserted homestead in Patrick County, Virginia. When I came upon this handsome old house I thought about it's possible history, and the families who had lived in it. At that time, there was a television series called, "The Waltons", and this country home strongly reminded me of that house...... leading me to name the painting, "The Homeplace". The painting was fairly difficult because of the large area of field in the foreground. This field was done with three separate watercolor washes to which I added texture while the washes were still damp. I have always thought of this as one of my better , and more complex watercolors. A print was made of the painting which soon sold out although we occasionally see them on the secondary print market.
