The historic Cape Lookout Lighthouse is one of the distinctive landmarks of the North Carolina Outer Banks. Standing since 1859, it is now threatened by erosion- at a rate of 70 feet per year- by the waters of Barden Inlet. The painting shows how close the water is approaching the western side of the lighthouse. This Alkyd painting by Robert B. Dance pictures a Harker's Island working boat named the Jean-Dale off Cape Lookout, clearly showing the beauty of this coastal area. Click Here for information about the Jean-Dale restoration project.
